When Laurens County Disability and Special Needs Board (LCDSNB) first introduced CreateAbility’s MeMinder task-prompting app in 2024, they hoped it would help individuals in their employment program stay on track. What they didn’t expect? A positive transformation in how their programs support independence, confidence, and person-centered care.
Seamless Enabling Technology Support from Home to Work
Tara Glenn, LCDSNB Associate Director, has seen the MeMinder integrate across both residential and community settings. “We love the flexibility it gives us moving with the individual from home to work,” she shares. “The same person that uses it for medication reminders and chores at home carries it to work on their phone and uses it there with their job coach as well!”
Whether it’s breaking down complex tasks into bite-sized steps or providing a “homebase” for staying focused, MeMinder is helping individuals overcome executive functioning challenges with ease. In LCDSNB’s simulated Training Center, the app is permanently installed at workstations to guide users through their job responsibilities; preparing them for success in real-world employment.
Confidence, Clarity, and Fewer Questions with Task Prompting
Feedback from program participants has been overwhelmingly positive. Tara notes that individuals love how MeMinder reduces uncertainty: “They don’t have to ask so many questions,” she says. “They feel more confident even when they forget their responsibilities.”
That confidence is contagious. LCDSNB is now expanding MeMinder’s use beyond employment and residential settings to support social skills, school tasks, and more.
A Tech Skeptic Turned MeMinder Champion
Shauna Patterson, Career Transition Specialist, leads the MeMinder efforts andadmits she was initially hesitant. “I was nervous with tech,” she confesses. But with consistent support from CreateAbility’s training team, Shauna found her stride – and then some.
“I’m no longer nervous. In fact, I think about what else this app can do now…and I do it!”
Shauna has become the MeMinder “guru” at LCDSNB who works between the individual and the Job Prep staff; customizing task lists, staging out responsibilities and monitoring progress in real time. Her dedication to tailoring the app to each individual’s environment and learning needs exemplifies enabling technology done right: flexible, empowering, and deeply person-centered.
Shauna humbly attributes her success to her CreateAbility trainer; we feel her success is rooted in her passion and desire to do her very best for each and every person she serves.
A Proud Moment: The MeMinder Expo
On June 5th, program participant George Beland and five peers hosted a “MeMinder Expo,” inviting LCDSNB’s executive team to witness the app in action. George proudly shared, “The MeMinder app helps us grow into our skills to become more independent. I, myself, am proud to use it.”
You can watch their inspiring showcase on YouTube, where participants demonstrate how MeMinder supports their daily routines and long-term goals.
Closing Kudos
Laurens County, we salute your commitment to innovation, inclusion, and the people you serve. You’ve turned a simple app into a powerful tool for independence – and that’s something worth celebrating.
