SoundAlert is an emergency communication device that also centralizes the presentation of critical sounds in the environment for people who are severely hard-of-hearing or deaf.  Small, battery operated, wireless sensors signal the presence of specific critical sounds to a portable unit carried by the user.  The unit vibrates and flashes to prompt the user of the presence of a sound event or motion behind them, and then displays the appropriate picture and caption.  Audio can also be played through amplification.  An instant-messaging method is provided for two-way, real-time communication with emergency personnel of 911 center.
